February 27 Sarah Pearson, Simpson, Jr., C
Averaged 14.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.0 steals per game during the Conference Tournament, leading the Storm to their first Tournament title since 2000. In a 73-67 quarterfinal victory over Central, scored 17 points, grabbed six rebounds and had one steal. Scored 16 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and had two blocks, an assist and a steal in a 70-67 victory over Luther in the semifinals. In the Championship game against Wartburg (69-62), scored 11 points, grabbed four rebounds, and had one assist and one steal.
February 20 Holly Zimmerman, Coe, Sr., G
Set the school record for points scored in a season (with 345 points) after averaging 19.0 points along with 4.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game in two contests during the week. Shot 39.1 percent (9-of-23) from the floor and 95.0 percent (19-of-20) from the free throw line Scored a career-high 25 points, had six assists, grabbed five rebounds and had three steals as the Kohawks defeated Luther for the first time in nine games. In the regular season finale against Central, scored 13 points, had four rebounds, three assist and one block.
February 13 Katie Maguire, Buena Vista, Jr., G
Averaged 20.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.3 steals per game in three contests during the week. Shot 62.5 percent (20-of-32) from the floor including 58.8 percent (10-of-17) from behind the three-point arc, and 90.9 percent (10-of-11) from the free throw line. Scored 16 points (on 5-of-11 shooting), grabbed seven rebounds and had three assists in a 91-64 victory over Loras. In a 66-63 win over Luther, scored 22 points (on 8-of-12 shooting), grabbed four rebounds, and had five steals and two assists. Posted similar numbers in an 83-61 victory over Dubuque, scoring 22 points (on 7-of-9 shooting), grabbing four rebounds, and having five assists and two steals.
February 6 Katie Maguire, Buena Vista, Jr., G
Averaged 18.0 points, 4.5 assists and 4.5 steals per game in two contests during the week. Shot 54.5 percent (12-of-22) from the field including 6-of-9 from behind the three-point arc, and 75.0 percent (6-of-8) from the free throw line. Against Coe, scored 16 points (5-of-10 shooting), grabbed two rebounds, had two assists and three steals. Scored her 1,000th career point among her 20 points (7-of-12 shooting) against Central. Also had seven assists, six steals and a block.
January 30 Amanda Berner, Wartburg, Sr., C
Averaged 17.7 points, 12.3 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game in three contests during the week. She shot 67.6 percent (25-of-37) from the floor and 60 percent (3-of-5) from the free throw line. Scored 16 points (on 7-of-9 shooting), grabbed 13 rebounds, and had a steal and block in a losing effort against Simpson. Against Loras, scored 18 points (on 9-of-11 shooting), grabbed 10 rebounds and had two blocks. Had her best overall game in the week’s finale against Central, scoring 19 points (on 9-of-17 shooting), grabbing 14 rebounds, and having six blocks and three assists.
January 23 Ashley Nekola, Central, Jr., F
Averaged 18.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game in two contests during the week. She shot 50.0 percent (14-of-28) from the floor and 75.0 percent (9-of-12) from the free throw line. Scored 17 points (on 6-of-14 shooting) and grabbed seven rebounds against Loras. In a losing effort against Buena Vista, scored 20 points (on 8-of-15 shooting) and grabbed nine rebounds. Also had an assist and a block in both games.
January 16 Katie Maguire, Buena Vista, Jr., G
Averaged 22.0 points, 6.3 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game in three contests during the week. Shot 47.5 percent from the floor (19-of-40) and 79.2 percent from the free throw line (19-of-24) Had nearly identical numbers in the Wartburg and Dubuque games, scoring 27 points, dishing out six assists and grabbing three rebounds in both games. Against Wartburg, had two steals, made of 7-of-17 field goals and 10-of-13 free throws. Against Dubuque, had three steals and made 11-of-16 field goals including 5-of-7 three pointers. Scored 12 points, had seven assists, five rebounds and a steal against Simpson.
January 9 Amanda Berner, Wartburg, Jr., C
Averaged 22.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game in two contests during the week. Shot 51.5 percent (17-of-33) from the floor and 68.8 percent (11-of-16) from the free throw line in a loss to Simpson (86-45) and a victory over Dubuque (75-67). Posted her 21st career double-double against Simpson, scoring 10 points and grabbing 11 rebounds to go along with seven blocked shots. Against Dubuque, scored a career-high 35 points, including the Knights’ first 15 of the game, and tied a school record with 14 made field goals (on 25 attempts). Also had eight rebounds and one steal.
January 2 Anne Straate, Luther, Jr., F
Named to the Clarke Holiday Tournament All-Tournament Team after averaging 17.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.3 steals, in three games, leading the Norse to a third-place finish. Shot 68.0 percent from the floor (17-of-25) and 85.7 percent from the free throw line (18-of-21) in victories over Edgewood (78-70, 2ot) and Clarke (73-39) and a loss to Concordia-Nebraska (69-55). In the Tournament opener against Edgewood, scored 20 points and grabbed five rebounds, going 6-for-6 from the field and 8-of-8 from the line. Had 15 points (5-of-9 shooting), four rebounds and four steals in a losing effort against Concordia. In the third-place game against host Clarke, she scored 17 points (6-of-10 shooting), grabbed nine rebounds and had four assists.
December 19 Kristina Kapler, Buena Vista, Sr., C
Scored 26 points and grabbed nine rebounds in 34 minutes against Whittier. Connected on 11-of-13 field goals (84.6 percent) and all four free throws in Buena Vista’s 78-59 victory in the opening round of the Tiger Poet Classic at Occidental College. Also had two assists in the contest.
December 12 Katelyn Whiton, Simpson, Fr., F
Averaged 19.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.0 steals in two games off the bench during the week. Shot 56.0 percent from the floor (14-of-25) and 91.7 percent (11-of-12) from the free throw line in victories over Grand View (65-62) and William Penn (68-39). In 23 minutes against Grand View, scored 21 points (8-of-14 shooting), grabbed eight rebounds (3-5), and had five steals and a block. In 17 minutes against William Penn, scored 18 points (6-of-11 shooting), grabbed four rebounds (3-1), and had three steals, two assists and two blocks
December 5 Ashley Bogaards, Simpson, Sr., F
Averaged 14.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.7 steals and 2.3 assists per game in three Storm victories during the week. Shot 38.2 percent (13-of-34) from the floor and 89.5 percent (17-of-19) from the free throw line in victories over Central (58-56), Carroll (82-63) and Webster (92-86). In the Conference-opener against Central, scored eight points and grabbed 10 rebounds (1-9). Most Valuable Player of the Webster Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament leading the Storm to the Championship while averaging 17.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, shooting 52.4 percent (11-of-21) from the floor and connecting on all 13 free throw attempts. Against Carroll, scored 14 points, had six rebounds (3-3) and three steals. Scored a season-high 21 points, tied a career-high with six assists to go along with six rebounds (4-2) and four steals in the Championship game against Webster.
November 28 Kelli Staley, Buena Vista, Jr., G
Averaged 12.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.3 steals in three games during the week. Shot 70.6 percent from the floor (12-of-17) including 62.5 percent from behind the three-point arc (5-of-8), and 81.8 percent from the free throw line (9-of-11) in victories over Martin Luther (82-49) and Graceland (91-49), and a loss to Mayville State (80-70). Scored eight points, had six rebounds (1-5), four steals and two assists in the Martin Luther contest. Led the Beavers to a third-place finish at the Dakota State Tournament, earning All-Tournament Team honors after posting back-to-back career-high 15-point performances.
November 21 Katie Maguire, Buena Vista, Jr., G
Scored a career-high 29 points, including the game-winning free throws with five seconds remaining in the Beavers’ 71-69 victory over Nebraska Wesleyan. Connected on 7-of-9 field goals (77.8 percent) including 3-of-4 from behind the three-point arc and 12-of-14 free throws (85.7 percent). Also contributed three assists and one rebound in Buena Vista’s season opening victory.
