MOUNT VERNON, IOWA . . . Twenty-one Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) softball players were named to the 2003 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Midwest Region Team. Six IIAC student-athletes earned First Team honors, seven earned Second Team honors and eight earned Third Team honors. A total of 45 student-athletes in the Region were recognized by the NFCA, 15 on each of the three Teams.

First Team members include Central College pitchers Libby Hysell (Colfax, Iowa/Colfax-Mingo HS) and April Miller (Pleasantville, Iowa/Pleasantville HS), Coe College catcher Abby Kite (Bonaparte, Iowa/Harmony HS) and outfielder Shalyn Swartout (Sioux City, Iowa/North HS), and Simpson College designated player Sara Kahler (Long Beach, Calif./Los Alamitos HS) and first baseman Michelle Montgomery (Newton, Iowa/Newton HS). Miller and Montgomery were at-large selections the others were selected at their listed position.

Second Team members include Coe shortstop Leah Furhman (Volga, Iowa/Central Community HS), Simpson pitcher Amy Kulisky (Pleasant Hill, Iowa/SE Polk HS), catcher Amanda Pilcher (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge HS) and outfielder Rebecca Siler (Muscatine, Iowa/Muscatine HS), and Wartburg College pitcher Stephanie Rasmussen (Audubon, Iowa/Audubon HS), first baseman Kathy Voss (New Liberty, Iowa/Durant HS) and designated player Renae Vomacka (Middle Amana, Iowa/Clear Creek-Amana HS).

Third Team members include Central first baseman Anne Legg (Ames, Iowa/Ames HS) and third baseman Katy Lein (Urbandale, Iowa/Urbandale HS), Coe pitcher Amy Ernst (Monona, Iowa/MFL-Mar-MAC HS), Luther outfielder Leah Thomsen (Hartley, Iowa/Clay Central-Everly HS), Simpson third baseman Alexis Angier (Des Moines, Iowa/Lincoln HS), Upper Iowa University pitcher Angie Weber (Hastings, Minn./Hastings HS) and shortstop Chyanne Kleve (Waucoma, Iowa/Turkey Valley HS), and Wartburg third baseman Emily Mangin (Waterloo, Iowa/East HS). Third Team selections were at-large, not by position.
