23 EARN SCHOLAR ALL-AMERICAN HONORS

MOUNT VERNON, IOWA . . . Twenty-three Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) student-athletes were recognized for their scholarly achievements as the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced their Scholar All-American Teams this week. Nine IIAC women golfers were recognized by the NGCA, nine women tennis players were recognized by the ITA and five men’s tennis players were recognized by the ITA.

The IIAC student-athletes earning NGCA All-American Scholar honors were: Buena Vista’s Jennifer Einck (Primghar, Iowa/South O’Brien HS), Betsy Hall (Lincoln, Neb./East HS) and Kristi Wellendorf (Ida Grove, Iowa/BC-IG HS); Luther’s Lindsay Buck (Ames, Iowa/Ames HS), Lisa Highum (Plymouth, Minn./Robinsdale Cooper HS), Kristie Lund (Dubuque, Iowa/Hempstead HS) and Melissa Stull (Reinbeck, Iowa/Gladbrook-Reinbeck HS); and Wartburg's Lindsey Huinker (Lawler, Iowa/Turkey Valley HS) and Breanne Pleggenkuhle (Clear Lake, Iowa/Clear Lake HS).

The IIAC student-athletes recognized as ITA Scholar-Athletes were: Coe’s Nick Barnes (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Washington HS), Lindsay Chase (Milo, Iowa/Indianola HS), Jamie Sheridan (Glendale Height, Ill./Glenband East HS) and Jessica Williams (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain HS); Cornell’s Steph Froehlich (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley HS), Marie Schutte (INFO) and Ingrid Spiegel (Lemont, Ill./Providence Catholic HS); and Luther’s Miriam Blom (Neenah, Wis./Neenah HS), Lindsay Hagen (Wells, Minn./United South Central HS), Randy Mack (Brandon S.D./Brandon HS), Scott Rheinschmidt (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy HS), Amanda Roiger (Dundas, Minn./Northfield HS), Ryan Sommers (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS) and Arvid von Taube (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley HS).

To be eligible for the NGCA All-American Scholar Team, a student-athlete must have a 3.5 cumulative grade point average (3.4 for seniors) and must have competed in at least 66 percent of her school’s regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.

To be eligible for ITA Scholar-Athlete honors, a student-athlete must be a varsity letter winner, have a 3.5 GPA or higher for the current academic year and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.

The ITA also announced this week its All-Academic Team award presented to institutions with a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). Cornell’s women’s team and Luther’s men’s and women’s team were recognized.
