August 4, 2003

MOUNT VERNON, IOWA . . . Four Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) schools were recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) when the organization announced its 2002-03 Team Academic Awards on August 1.

Buena Vista University, Central College, University of Dubuque and Wartburg College were among 26 NCAA Division III schools honored by the AVCA. Over 200 schools, NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA, Junior Colleges and high schools were recognized. Wartburg was one of 26 schools to earn the AVCA Team Academic Award and also earn a berth in its collegiate post-season tournament.

The AVCA initiated the Team Academic Award in 1992-93 to honor college and high school teams that display excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average.
