MOUNT VERNON, IOWA . . . The Iowa
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today the 2002
Women’s Tennis All-Conference Team. The Team was selected by a vote
of the Conference coaches upon conclusion of the Conference Championship
held October 11-12.
Coaches voted for four players at #1, #2 and #3
singles and two players at #4, #5 and #6 singles. Additionally coaches
voted for two teams at #1 doubles and one team at both #2 and #3
doubles. Players were eligible for selection at the position played
during a plurality of her teams’ matches.
Conference Champion Luther and runner-up Cornell
each had five individuals named to the All-Conference Team. Third-place
Loras had three individuals followed by Central, Coe and Simpson
with two individuals each. Buena Vista had one player earn All-Conference
honors.
Six individuals earned two All-Conference selections
including IIAC MVP Lindsey Pfalmer of Cornell and
Luther’s Miriam Blom who were both selected at
#1 singles and #1 doubles. The others selected to the All-Conference
Team for their singles and doubles play were a trio of Cornell players
– Sarah Leavenworth (#2 singles and #2 doubles),
Steph Froehlich (#5 singles and #1 doubles), and
Marie Schutte (#3 singles and #2 doubles), and
Luther’s Jacie Haroldson (#4 singles and #3 doubles).
