NINE FOOTBALL PLAYERS, TWO VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS NAMED TO VERIZON ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT TEAMS

MOUNT VERNON, IOWA . . . Eleven Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) student-athletes, nine football players and two volleyball players were named to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District VII College Division Teams as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) in their respective sports on Thursday.

Seventy-one student-athletes were named to the Verizon Academic All-District VII Football Team, 25 on the First Team and 23 on both the Second and Third Teams. Eighteen student-athletes were named to the Verizon Academic All-District VII Volleyball Team, six players on three teams.

The six members of the Verizon Academic All-District VII Volleyball First Team and the 25 members of the Verizon Academic All-District VII Football First Team will be placed on the national ballot. The Verizon Academic All-America® Football Team will be announced on Monday, December 2. The Verizon Academic All-America® Volleyball Team will be announced on Thursday, December 5.

To be eligible for selection to the Verizon Academic All-District Team and the Verizon Academic All-America® Team, a student-athlete must have reached sophomore academic and athletic standing, be a starter or key reserve and possess at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale).

District VII College Division includes NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA schools in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Alberta and Saskatchewan.
