MOUNT VERNON, IOWA . . . The Iowa
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today its All-Academic
Team for the Fall 2002 season. Two hundred seventy five student-athletes
from the Conference’s eight fall sports met the set requirements
for recognition.
To be eligible for All-Academic Team honors a student-athlete
must participate at the varsity level, be at least a sophomore in
academic standing and attain a 3.5 or better grade point average
(on a 4.0 scale). This marks the first year that sophomores are
eligible for Conference All-Academic recognition.
The 2002 Fall All-Academic Team is comprised of
101 sophomores, 94 juniors and 80 seniors. Luther College has a
Conference-high 47 student-athletes on the Team followed by Central
College (40 student-athletes), Coe College (33 student-athletes)
and Loras College (33 student-athletes).
Eighty six of the student-athletes honored are
cross country runners, including 63 women and 23 men. Fifty-three
of those honored are soccer players including 28 women and 25 men.
Rounding out the All-Academic Team are 58 football players, 39 volleyball
players, 21 women tennis players and 18 women golfers.
