MOUNT VERNON, IOWA . . . The Iowa
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today that
17 players have been named the Don Hansen's Football Gazette
All-West Region Team. Highlighting the 17 IIAC players on the
All-West Region Team is Coe College’s Fredrick Jackson
(Fort Worth, Texas/Lamar HS) who was named to the First Team as
a running back and a return specialist. In addition, Jackson was
named the Region’s Special Teams Player of the Year.
Six Iowa Conference schools had at least one player
named to the Don Hansen's Football Gazette All-West Region
Team. Coe College had a Conference-best five players earn All-Region
honors followed by Wartburg College and Simpson College with four
players each. Central College had two players earn All-Region honors
and Cornell College and Buena Vista University each had one player.
The IIAC received four First Team All-Region honors
including Jackson’s two selections. Coe defensive back Patrick
Jackson (Fort Worth, Texas/Lamar HS) and Wartburg defensive
lineman Vince King (Burlington, Iowa/Burlington
HS) also earned First Team honors.
Second Team selections include Central linebacker
Austin Bonnema (Pella, Iowa/Pella HS), Coe offensive
lineman David Stevens (St. Louis, Mo./CBC HS),
Cornell linebacker Chet Knake (Bellevue, Iowa/Bellevue
HS), Simpson place kicker Brett Majors (Urbandale,
Iowa/Urbandale HS), and Wartburg linebacker Ryan Winters
(Iowa Falls, Iowa/Iowa Falls HS).
Rounding out the Iowa Conference honorees are nine
Third Team members – Buena Vista wide receiver Josh Espinosa
(Bellevue, Neb./Papillion La Vista HS), Central linebacker
Mark Sanger (Britt, Iowa/West Hancock HS), Coe
defensive lineman Scott Searcy (Waukon, Iowa/Waukon
HS) and linebacker Zach Pfantz (Melbourne, Iowa/West
Marshall HS), Simpson quarterback Mike Donnenwerth (Sheffield,
Iowa/SCMT HS), wide receiver Jesse Von Behren (Olin,
Iowa/Olin HS) and defensive back Kyle Westphal (Fontanelle,
Iowa/Nodaway Valley HS), and Wartburg running back Brad
Hodapp (Solon, Iowa/Solon HS) and offensive lineman Jeff
Voreis (Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS),
Members of the All-West Region First and Second
Teams along with First and Second Team members from the other three
regions will be placed on the Don Hansen's Football Gazette
All-America Ballot.
