COE'S JACKSON AND WARTBURG'S KELLEY NAMED TO HEWLETT PACKARD ALL-AMERICA TEAM

December 18, 2002

MOUNT VERNON, IOWA . . . The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today that Coe College running back Fredrick Jackson (Fort Worth, Texas/Lamar HS) and Wartburg College defensive back Cody Kelley (Tipton, Iowa/Tipton HS) have been named to the 25th Annual Hewlett Packard All-America Team. Jackson was named to the First Team and Kelley to the Third Team.

Two-time Conference MVP Jackson continues to garner post season awards. On December 14, he was named MVP of the 2002 Aztec Bowl and on December 17, he was named to the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) All-America Team and Don Hansen’s Football Gazette All-West Region Team.

Kelley, a junior, is a two-time All-Conference selection and finished the 2002 season as the IIAC’s co-leader in interceptions with six, including two which he returned for touchdowns.

Coe offensive lineman David Stevens (St. Louis, Mo./CBC HS), Cornell linebacker Chet Knake (Bellevue, Iowa/Bellevue HS) and Wartburg defensive lineman Vince King (Burlington, Iowa/Burlington HS) received Hewlett Packard Honorable Mention.

The silver anniversary Hewlett Packard All-America Team was selected by a panel of 29 sports information directors representing the four playoff regions in NCAA Division III. Voters made first-, second- and third-team selections. Three hundred seventy seven players were included on the ballot. Teams with two or fewer losses were allowed five nominations, teams .500 or better could nominate up to three players and schools finishing below .500 were allotted two nominations.

The complete 2002 Hewlett Packard All-America Team can be found here.
