CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . Six Iowa
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) women’s cross country
teams, three men’s cross country teams and six student-athletes
were named to the United States Cross Country Coaches Association
(USCCCA) All-Academic Team.
The Simpson College, Loras College, Cornell College
and Coe College women’s cross country teams, and the Central College
and Cornell College men’s cross country teams were named All-Academic
Cross Country Team with distinction. The Wartburg College and Central
College women’s team and the Loras College men’s team were named
All-Academic Cross Country Team.
To be eligible for the USCCCA All-Academic Team
honor, a school must have a team cumulative grade point average
above 3.0, and competed in the regional qualifying meet and five
runners must have finished. Schools with a cumulative grade point
average above 3.25 received All-Academic Team with distinction honors.
The USCCCA recognized 101 women’s cross country teams (80 with distinction)
and 63 men’s cross country teams (35 with distinction).
Individually, Coe’s Jenna Boerboom (Walnut
Grove, Minn./Tracey Area HS), Loras’ Marcus Murphy (Ankeny
Iowa/Ankeny HS) and Dan Winder (Waterloo, Iowa/West
HS), Luther’s Adam Bohach (Spillville, Iowa/South
Winneshiek HS), Simpson’s Jen Wendt (Bettendorf,
Iowa/Pleasant Valley HS) and Wartburg’s Katie Croker
(Marshalltown, Iowa/Marshalltown HS) received USCCCA All-Academic
honors. Boerboom, Wendt and Croker were among 130 female student-athletes
honored. Murphy, Winder and Bohach were among 73 male student-athletes
honored.
For an individual to be eligible for USCCCA All-Academic
honors, she/he must have a 3.25 GPA through the fall 2003 term and
must have placed among the top-15 or top 10 percent of regional
finishers, and/or earned All-American honors at the National Championship.
