CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . The Iowa
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today its All-Academic
Team for the Winter 2003-04 season. Seventy-nine student-athletes
from the Conference’s five winter sports met the requirements for
recognition.
To be eligible for All-Academic Team honors a student-athlete
must participate at the varsity level, be at least a sophomore in
academic standing and attain a 3.5 or better grade point average
(on a 4.0 scale).
The 2003-04 IIAC Winter All-Academic Team is comprised
of 27 sophomores, 29 juniors and 23 seniors. Coe College has a Conference-high
18 student-athletes on the Team followed by Buena Vista University
with 15 student-athletes and Luther College with 13 student-athletes.
Forty-seven of the student-athletes honored are
basketball players, including 23 women and 24 men. Twenty-five swimmers
are on the All-Academic Team, including 16 women and 9 men. Seven
wrestlers all made the Team.
Four members of the 2003-04 Winter All-Academic
Team earned similar honors during the fall season – Buena Vista’s
Michael Irvin (football/wrestling), Coe’s Nate
Clapham (football/basketball), Cornell’s Melanie
Manz (volleyball/basketball) and Dubuque’s Kelly
Thompson (cross country/basketball).
