ONE NATIONAL CHAMPION, 27 ALL-AMERICANS FOR IIAC AT NATIONAL INDOOR TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS

WHITEWATER, WIS. . . . Twenty-seven Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference student-athletes earned All-American honors at the NCAA National Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday and Saturday at Kachel Fieldhouse on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

University of Dubuque’s Basil Steele defended his National Championship in the 55-meter hurdles, with a Division III season-best and venue record time of 7.44 in the finals. Steele’s performance led the Spartans to an eighth-place tie in the team standings on the men’s side with 16.0 points. Wartburg College, behind five All-Americans tied for 15th with 12.0 points. Loras College (t-20th with 10.0 points), Central College (t-24th, 8.0 points) and Cornell College (t-28th, 7.0 points) also placed on the men’s side.

On the women’s side, Wartburg finished in a tie for 29th-place with 6.0 points. Central and Coe College tied for 44th (3.0 points) followed by Loras and Luther College which tied for 52nd (2.0 points).

In addition to Steele’s National title, other Iowa Conference performers earning All-American honors (top-8 finishers) include:

Wartburg’s 4x400 relay (Holly Dorenkamp, Sarah Tompkins, Bridget Burns & Ashley Williams) – 5th (3:54.08); second straight All-American honor in 4x400 relay
Coe’s distance medley relay (Jenna Boerboom, Stephanie Stamm, Carman White & Meredith Dobson) – 6th (12:06.09)
Central’s Raegan Schultz – 6th in 55-meter hurdles (8.41)
Loras’ Rachel Hutchins – 7th in 55-meter hurdles (8.44); second straight All-American honor in 55-hurdles
