CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . Five
Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) baseball and three
IIAC softball student-athletes were named to the CoSIDA Academic
All-District VII College Division Teams announced on Thursday.
Baseball - Buena Vista University
junior infielder Brian Ricken (Marshalltown, Iowa/Marshalltown
HS), a biology major, was a First Team Academic All-District baseball
selection. Four student-athletes were named to the Academic All-District
Second Team – Central College sophomore infielder Adam Duerfeldt
(Urbandale, Iowa/Urbandale HS), Luther College junior infielder
David Zelinskas (Dubuque, Iowa/Senior HS), Simpson
College senior infielder Mike Donnenwerth (Sheffield,
Iowa/SCMT HS) and Wartburg College sophomore catcher Brian
Greiner (Des Moines, Iowa/Lincoln HS). Duerfeldt is a chemistry
major, Greiner is an accounting major, and Donnenwerth and Zelinskas
are biology majors.
Softball – Simpson College junior
outfielder Kate Brandt (Coquitlam, B.C./Pinetree
HS) and Upper Iowa University senior infielder Chyanne Kleve
(Waucoma, Iowa/Turkey Valley HS) were First Team Academic
All-District softball selections. Simpson sophomore pitcher Bradi
Smith (Lacona, Iowa/Southeast Warren HS) was a Second Team
selection. Brandt is a biology major, Kleve is a criminology/wellness
major and Smith is an English/secondary education major.
To be eligible for selection to the Academic All-District
Team and the Academic All-America® Team, a student-athlete must
have reached sophomore academic and athletic standing, be a starter
or key reserve and possess at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point
average (on a 4.0 scale). The CoSIDA Academic All-America® Baseball
Team will be announced on June 1. The CoSIDA Academic All-America®
Softball Team will be announced on June 3.
District VII College Division includes NCAA Division
II, NCAA Division III and NAIA schools in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas,
Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming,
Alberta and Saskatchewan.
