203 STUDENT-ATHLETES EARN ALL-ACADEMIC RECOGNITION

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today its All-Academic Team for the Spring 2004 season. Two hundred three student-athletes from the Conference’s six spring sports met the requirements for recognition.

To be eligible for All-Academic Team honors a student-athlete must participate at the varsity level, be at least a sophomore in academic standing and attain a 3.5 or better grade point average (on a 4.0 scale).

The 2004 IIAC Spring All-Academic Team is comprised of 82 sophomores, 54 juniors and 67 seniors. Wartburg College has a Conference-high 35 student-athletes on the Team followed by Luther College with 33 student-athletes and Central College with 30 student-athletes.

Ninety-seven of the student-athletes honored participated in track and field, including 66 women and 31 men. Forty-five softball players, 26 baseball players, 24 men’s tennis players and 11 men’s golfers round out the Team.

Fifty-two (26.1 percent) of the 2003 Spring All-Academic Team earned IIAC All-Academic honors in the fall or winter season. Fourteen of Luther’s 33 Spring All-Academic Team members earned similar honors in the fall or winter. Eight of Cornell College’s 12 Spring All-Academic Team members were members of the fall or winter All-Academic Team. Wartburg also has eight two-time All-Academic honorees.
