CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . Six Iowa
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) student-athletes, five
males and one female, were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District
VII College Division At-Large Teams announced on Thursday. Student-athletes
participating in sports that do not have its own CoSIDA Academic
All-District and All-America Team are eligible for the At-Large
Team including swimming, golf, tennis and wrestling.
Loras College junior swimmer Rebekah Reid
(Caledonia, Ill./Rockford Guilford HS) was named to the
10-member Women’s At-Large Team.
Coe College senior tennis player Nick Barnes
(Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Washington HS), Coe senior swimmer
Dustin Briggs (Jefferson, Iowa/Jefferson-Scranton
HS), Luther College junior wrestler Garrett South (Cumberland,
Iowa/C&M HS) and Wartburg College junior tennis player Mark
Giesmann (Waverly, Iowa/Waverly Shell Rock HS) were named
to the Men’s At-Large First Team. Simpson College senior wrestler
Bart George (Truro, Iowa/Norwalk HS) was a Second
Team selection.
Barnes was a First Team Academic All-District selection
and a Third Team All-America® selection in 2003. Giesmann was
a First Team Academic All-America® selection in football in
the fall 2003.
Reid, Barnes, Briggs, South and Giesmann will all
move onto the CoSIDA Academic All-America® At-Large Team ballots.
The CoSIDA Academic All-America® Men’s At-Large Team will be
announced on June 15. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® Women’s
At-Large Team will be announced on June 17.
To be eligible for selection to the Academic All-District
Team and the Academic All-America® Team, a student-athlete must
have reached sophomore academic and athletic standing, be a starter
or key reserve and possess at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point
average (on a 4.0 scale).
District VII College Division includes NCAA Division
II, NCAA Division III and NAIA schools in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas,
Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming,
Alberta and Saskatchewan.
