ELEVEN EARN NATIONAL AND REGIONAL ACADEMIC HONORS

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . Eleven Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) student-athletes were recognized by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday as the organization announced the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Softball Team and the CoSIDA Academic All-District Track & Field/Cross Country Teams.

Softball Academic All-America® - Simpson College junior outfielder Kate Brandt (Coquitlam, B.C./Pinetree HS) and Upper Iowa University senior infielder Chyanne Kleve (Waucoma, Iowa/Turkey Valley HS) were both named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® College Division Softball Second Team. Brandt is a biology major and Kleve is a criminology/wellness major. Both student-athletes were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District VII Softball First Team on May 13.

Track & Field/Cross Country Academic All-District VII – Seven women and two men were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District VII College Division Track & Field/Cross Country Teams. Central College senior Raegan Schultz (Barnum, Iowa/Manson NW Webster HS), Cornell College junior Anna Doherty (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area HS) and Wartburg College senior Kelly Foley (Tipton, Iowa/Tipton HS) were named to the Women’s Academic All-District VII First Team. Schultz is a business management major, Doherty is an English and Spanish major, and Foley is a psychology major.

Buena Vista University senior Kate Van Dusseldorp (Iowa City, Iowa/West HS), Coe College senior Jenna Boerboom (Walnut Grove, Minn./Tracy Area HS), Cornell College junior Jaclyn Peterson (Bloomington, Minn./Thomas Jefferson HS) and Upper Iowa University senior Jennifer O’Neill (Waukon, Iowa/Waukon HS) were named to the Women’s Academic All-District VII Second Team. Van Dusseldorp is an elementary education major, Boerboom is a biology/general science major, Peterson is an economics and business major, and O’Neill is an English and communications major.

On the men’s side, Loras College senior Marcus Murphy (Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny HS) and Wartburg College senior Brent Showalter (Wellman, Iowa/Mid-Prairie HS) were named to the Men’s Academic All-District VII First Team. Murphy is an accounting/economics major and Showalter is a business administration major.

Members of the CoSIDA Academic All-District Track & Field/Cross Country First Teams are now eligible for the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Track & Field/Cross Country Team. The Men’s Team will be announced on Tuesday, June 22. The Women’s Team will be announced on Thursday, June 24.
