FIVE RECEIVE NCAA POSTGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS

June 29, 2004

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . Five Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) student-athletes were among 58 recipients of the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships awarded to spring sport participants.

Central College track and field performer Raegan Schultz (Barnum, Iowa/Manson NW Webster HS), Coe College tennis player Nick Barnes (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Washington HS), and Wartburg College track and field performers Brent Showalter (Wellman, Iowa/Mid-Prairie HS), Dia Dohlman (Eldora, Iowa/Eldora New Providence HS) and Kelly Foley (Tipton, Iowa/Tipton HS) received the prestigious recognition from the NCAA.

To qualify for an NCAA postgraduate scholarship, a student-athlete must have an overall grade-point average of 3.200 (on a 4.000 scale) or its equivalent and must have performed with distinction as a member of the varsity team in the sport in which the student-athlete was nominated. The student-athlete must have behaved, both on and off the field, in a manner that has brought credit to the student-athlete, the institution and intercollegiate athletics. The student-athlete also must intend to continue academic work beyond the baccalaureate degree as a full-time or part-time graduate student.

Schultz, Showalter and Dohlman are business management majors, Foley is a psychology major, and Barnes is an English and Spanish major. All five student-athletes were recently named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Teams for their respective sports and four of the five earned All-America honors during the spring season.
