CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . Five
Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) student-athletes
were among 58 recipients of the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships awarded
to spring sport participants.
Central College track and field performer Raegan
Schultz (Barnum, Iowa/Manson NW Webster HS), Coe College
tennis player Nick Barnes (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Washington
HS), and Wartburg College track and field performers Brent
Showalter (Wellman, Iowa/Mid-Prairie HS), Dia Dohlman
(Eldora, Iowa/Eldora New Providence HS) and Kelly
Foley (Tipton, Iowa/Tipton HS) received the prestigious
recognition from the NCAA.
To qualify for an NCAA postgraduate scholarship,
a student-athlete must have an overall grade-point average of 3.200
(on a 4.000 scale) or its equivalent and must have performed with
distinction as a member of the varsity team in the sport in which
the student-athlete was nominated. The student-athlete must have
behaved, both on and off the field, in a manner that has brought
credit to the student-athlete, the institution and intercollegiate
athletics. The student-athlete also must intend to continue academic
work beyond the baccalaureate degree as a full-time or part-time
graduate student.
Schultz, Showalter and Dohlman are business management
majors, Foley is a psychology major, and Barnes is an English and
Spanish major. All five student-athletes were recently named to
the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Teams for their respective
sports and four of the five earned All-America honors during the
spring season.
