CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . Four
Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) soccer players,
three men and one woman, were named to the Academic All-America®
Soccer Teams as selected by the College Sports Information Directors
of America (CoSIDA).
On the men’s side, Buena Vista University senior
defender Nick Fox (Omaha, Neb./Ralston HS), a computer
science/math double-major, was named to the First Team. Cornell
College senior defender Matt Loptien (Littleton,
Colo./Summit HS), a biochemistry major, was named to the Second
Team. Coe College senior forward Kyle Fargen (Appleton,
Wis./East HS), a biology/psychology/general science major, was named
to the Third Team.
On the women’s side, Simpson College senior forward
Erin Goettl (Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS),
a computer science major, was named to the Second Team.
The Academic All-America® selection was the
second for Loptien, Fargen and Goettl, and the first for Fox. Loptien
and Goettl were Second Team selections in 2002. Fargen was a Third
Team selection in 2002.
To be eligible for the CoSIDA Academic All-America®
Team, a student-athlete must be named to the Academic All-District
First Team, must have reached sophomore academic and athletic standing,
be a starter or key reserve and possess at least a 3.20 cumulative
grade point average (on a 4.0 scale).
