CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . Four
Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) women’s soccer players
were named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America’s
(NSCAA) All-Central Region Team announced on Wednesday.
Iowa Conference Most Valuable Player Katie
Pettigrew (Farmington, N.M./Farmington HS) from Luther
College and Loras College forward Michelle Wieser (Dubuque,
Iowa/Senior HS) were named to the All-Central Region First Team.
Loras defender Fae Carroll (Rochester, Minn./Lourdes
HS) earned Second Team honors and Luther midfielder Abby
Bachelder (Littleton, Colo./Dakota Ridge HS) was named
to the Third Team.
Pettigrew and Wieser have been among the nations
leading scorers throughout the season. Pettigrew leads the nation
in goals (1.79 goals/game) and points (4.32 points/game), and ranks
14th in assists (0.74 assists/game). Wieser ranks 10th in the nation
in points (2.96 points/game), 20th in goals (1.13 goals/game) and
27th in assists (0.7 assists/game).
Carroll anchored the Iowa Conference’s top defensive
team that allowed just 15 goals in 23 games during the season. The
Duhawks rank 28th in the nation with a 0.643 goals against average.
Bachelder tied for sixth in the Conference with 11 goals scored.
She also finished seventh in the Conference with 31 points and 10th
with nine assists.
The All-Region honor for Pettigrew is her third
straight, having earned Second Team honors in 2001 and Third Team
honors in 2002. Wieser and Carroll were both honored for the second
straight season, having earned Third Team honors in 2002.
