CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . Five
Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) men’s soccer players
were named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America’s
(NSCAA) All-West Region Team announced on Thursday.
Iowa Conference Most Valuable Player Brad
Johnson (Dubuque, Iowa/Hempstead HS) from Loras College
and Wartburg College forward Verne Houston (Omaha,
Neb./Benson HS) were named to the All-West Region First Team. Buena
Vista University defender Nick Fox (Omaha, Neb./Ralston
HS) and Simpson College forward Brandon Volz (Altoona,
Iowa/SE Polk HS) earned Second Team honors and Luther College forward
Eric Henderson (Clive, Iowa/Valley HS) was named
to the Third Team.
Johnson tied for fourth in the Conference in points
(33) and goals scored (14), and tied for second with four game-winning
goals while leading Loras to its first Iowa Conference title. Houston
was second in the Conference in points (37) and goals (16) leading
Wartburg to a second-place regular season finish and its first Conference
Tournament title.
Fox anchored the Conference’s top defense that
surrendered just 16 goals in 19 games (0.83 goals against average).
Volz led the Conference with 17 goals, 38 points and five game-winning
goals. Henderson ranked third in points (34), sixth in goals (13)
and tied for fifth in assists (8).
