CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . Seven
Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) football players
were named to the All-America Teams announced by the American Football
Coaches Association (AFCA) and Don Hansen’s Football Gazette
on Tuesday. The AFCA All-America Team is selected by the coaches.
The Football Gazette All-America Team is selected by sports
information directors.
Wartburg College defensive back Cody Kelley
(Tipton, Iowa/Tipton HS) and Simpson College punter Mike
Donnenwerth (Sheffield, Iowa/SCMT HS) were both named to
the AFCA All-America Team. Kelley was also named to Don Hansen’s
Football Gazette All-America Second Team and Donnenwerth
was named to the Football Gazette All-America Third Team.
Simpson defensive back Kyle Westphal (Fontanelle,
Iowa/Nodaway Valley HS) was named to the Football Gazette
First Team. Joining Kelley on the Second Team was Buena Vista University
linebacker Michael Irvin (Bedford, Iowa/Bedford
HS) and Wartburg defensive lineman Vince King (Burlington,
Iowa/Burlington HS).
Simpson wide receiver Dusty Kain
(Prairie City, Iowa/Prairie City-Monroe HS) and Wartburg offensive
lineman Jeff Vories (Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy
HS) join Donnenwerth on the Football Gazette Third Team.
Donnenwerth, Kelley and King are now all three-time
All-Americans. Donnenwerth was a d3football.com Third Team selection
last season. Kelley was a Hewlett-Packard Third Team selection last
season. King earned Third Team honors from Don Hansen’s Football
Gazette and d3football.com last season.
