BUENA VISTA'S BERRY WINS 200th CAREER GAME

STORM LAKE, IOWA . . . Buena Vista University women’s basketball head coach Janet Berry recorded her 200th career victory in a 89-54 home victory over the University of Dubuque on Friday. Berry, who is in her 13th season leading the Beavers, boosted her career mark to 200-124.

Katie Maguire led 24th ranked Buena Vista to the win with 27 points on 11 of 16 shooting. She helped spark a 30-3 Beaver run to begin the second half which put the game out of reach after Buena Vista had just a 32-27 halftime advantage. Maguire also dished out a game-high six assists.

Kristina Kapler tossed in 23 points as Buena Vista capitalized off of 30 Dubuque turnovers. The Beavers shot 45 percent from the floor while the Spartans hit on only 29 percent of their attempts.

Dubuque jumped on Buena Vista early, gunning out to a 10-0 lead. The Spartans were up 24-13 with under 11 minutes left in the first half. The Beavers then went on a 19-3 spurt to close out the half. From the 10:35 mark in the first half until the 11:54 mark in the second half, Buena Vista outscored Dubuque 49-6.

Madie Wolf led Dubuque offensively with 12 points. Jessica Cox added nine while dishing out a team-best four assists. The Spartans dropped to 4-9, 1-4 in the Iowa Conference.

Berry, who recorded her 100th career win on December 1, 1998 against Cornell College, has guided the Beavers to an 11-1 start, 3-0 in the IIAC. It is the program's best start to a season with Berry at the helm.

The Beavers have won 38 of their past 42 gamess and have triumphed in five straight contests over Dubuque. The squad next faces Simpson College at home on Saturday at 4:00 pm at Siebens Fieldhouse.
