INDIANOLA, IOWA . . . Cory
Chapman has been named the head women's soccer coach at
Simpson College, announced John Sirianni, Simpson's athletic director.
His appointment is effective immediately.
Chapman has been assistant coach of both the men's
and women's teams since 2002, and his appointment will bring some
continuity to a program that is undergoing a planned restructuring,
Sirianni said.
Lana Smith, Simpson's Senior Women's Administrator,
said, "Cory has done a wonderful job as our women's assistant.
I am responsible for the women's soccer program at Simpson, and
I am pleased to welcome Cory as our new head coach. He brings a
great deal of enthusiasm and talent for the game to the position."
Chapman has also been the head men's junior varsity
coach since 2002. He joined the Storm program from Viterbo University
in La Crosse, Wisconsin, where he served as an assistant coach in
2001. He played for Viterbo as a junior and senior and was named
second team All-Conference as a senior.
He joined the Viterbo program after a year at Univ.
of Wis.-Platteville, where he was named first-team All-Conference.
He earned his degree in liberal studies from Viterbo in 2001.
Chapman began his soccer career at Bethany Lutheran
Junior College and was first team All-Region and second team, All-American
as a freshman. Chapman earned his United States Soccer Federation
Youth License in 2002 and his National Soccer Coaches Association
of American National Diploma in 1999. He began his coaching career
as an assistant girls varsity coach at Aquinas High School in La
Crosse, Wis. Chapman earned his master's degree in liberal studies
with an emphasis in health and human performance from Ft. Hays State
Univ. (Kan.) in Dec. 2004.
The women's soccer program at Simpson was established
on the varsity level in 1996 after a year on the junior varsity
level. The program has compiled a 125-56-6 record that includes
winning the 1999 Iowa Conference championship and becoming the first
Iowa Conference team to advance to the second round of the NCAA
tournament. The Storm have appeared in eighth of nine Iowa Conference
Tournaments, gaining runner-up status in 2000 and four third-place
finishes.
Chapman said, "I am excited and anxious to
be taking over such a fine collegiate women's soccer program."
