INDIANOLA, IOWA . . . Cory Chapman has been named the head women's soccer coach at Simpson College, announced John Sirianni, Simpson's athletic director. His appointment is effective immediately.

Chapman has been assistant coach of both the men's and women's teams since 2002, and his appointment will bring some continuity to a program that is undergoing a planned restructuring, Sirianni said.

Lana Smith, Simpson's Senior Women's Administrator, said, "Cory has done a wonderful job as our women's assistant. I am responsible for the women's soccer program at Simpson, and I am pleased to welcome Cory as our new head coach. He brings a great deal of enthusiasm and talent for the game to the position."

Chapman has also been the head men's junior varsity coach since 2002. He joined the Storm program from Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisconsin, where he served as an assistant coach in 2001. He played for Viterbo as a junior and senior and was named second team All-Conference as a senior.

He joined the Viterbo program after a year at Univ. of Wis.-Platteville, where he was named first-team All-Conference. He earned his degree in liberal studies from Viterbo in 2001.

Chapman began his soccer career at Bethany Lutheran Junior College and was first team All-Region and second team, All-American as a freshman. Chapman earned his United States Soccer Federation Youth License in 2002 and his National Soccer Coaches Association of American National Diploma in 1999. He began his coaching career as an assistant girls varsity coach at Aquinas High School in La Crosse, Wis. Chapman earned his master's degree in liberal studies with an emphasis in health and human performance from Ft. Hays State Univ. (Kan.) in Dec. 2004.

The women's soccer program at Simpson was established on the varsity level in 1996 after a year on the junior varsity level. The program has compiled a 125-56-6 record that includes winning the 1999 Iowa Conference championship and becoming the first Iowa Conference team to advance to the second round of the NCAA tournament. The Storm have appeared in eighth of nine Iowa Conference Tournaments, gaining runner-up status in 2000 and four third-place finishes.

Chapman said, "I am excited and anxious to be taking over such a fine collegiate women's soccer program."
