FOUR NAMED TO ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT BASKETBALL TEAMS

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . Four Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) student-athletes were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VII College Division Basketball Teams selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and announced on Thursday. The Conference honorees include two female and two male student-athletes.

Buena Vista University guard Katie Maguire (Treynor, Iowa/Treynor) was named to the five-member women’s basketball Academic All-District First Team and now moves on to the national ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® ballot. Her teammate, guard Megan Holtorf (Pomeroy, Iowa/Pomeroy-Palmer) was named to the Second Team.

On the men’s basketball Academic All-District Team, Coe College guard Nick Wilkins (Grinnell, Iowa/Grinnell) and Wartburg College guard Jason Steege (Fredericksburg, Iowa/Fredericksburg) were named to the six-member Second Team.

Maguire is a junior elementary education major with a 3.734 grade point average. Holtorf is a senior finance and banking/economics major with a 3.914 GPA. Wilkins is a senior business/economics major with a 3.639 GPA. Steege is a junior business administration major with a 3.504 GPA.

To be eligible for selection to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team, a student-athlete must have reached sophomore academic and athletic standing, be a starter or key reserve and possess at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale).

District VII College Division includes NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA schools in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Alberta and Saskatchewan.
