FORMER LUTHER WRESTLING COACH SOLBERG ELECTED TO NWCA HALL OF FAME

DECORAH, IOWA . . . Paul Solberg, the winningest wrestling coach in Luther College history, has been selected for induction into the National Wrestling Coaches Association NCAA Division III Hall of Fame.

Solberg amassed a career record of 127-65-3 in 15 years serving as head coach of the Luther wrestling program. During his tenure, he led the Norse to two Iowa Conference championships (in 1975 and 1978) and coached three Division III national champions, 16 Division III All-Americans, and one Division I All-American. (At one time, if an athlete won a Division III title, he was invited to wrestle in the Division I national tournament.)

Named Iowa Conference Coach of the Year three times, Solberg also coached 38 conference champions, seven of whom were named the tournament’s outstanding wrestler. Solberg will join two of his former wrestlers in the NWCA Division III Hall of Fame—Jeff Bouslag ’81 and Dan Boos ’80.

The induction ceremony will take place prior to the NCAA Division III National Wrestling Championships, to be hosted by St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minn., March 4-5, 2005. The ceremony will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 3, at The Grand Event Center of Northfield, 316 Washington Street, Northfield, Minn. It is free of charge.
