80 STUDENT-ATHLETES EARN ALL-ACADEMIC RECOGNITION

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today its All-Academic Team for the Winter 2004-05 season. Eighty student-athletes from the Conference’s five winter sports met the requirements for recognition.

To be eligible for IIAC All-Academic Team honors a student-athlete must compete at that varsity level, be at least a sophomore in academic standing and attain a 3.5 or better grade point average (on a 4.0 scale).

The 2004-05 Winter All-Academic Team is comprised of 30 sophomores, 27 seniors and 23 juniors. Coe College has a Conference-high 17 student-athletes on the Team followed by Luther College with 14 student-athletes and Buena Vista University with 13 student-athletes.

Fifty-three of the student-athletes honored are basketball players, including 35 women and 18 men. Twenty swimmers are on the All-Academic Team, including 12 women and eight men. Seven wrestlers also made the Team.

Three members of the 2004-05 Winter All-Academic Team earned similar honors during the fall season – Buena Vista senior Michael Irvin (football/wrestling), Coe sophomore Cassidy Brandt (volleyball/basketball) and Cornell senior Melanie Manz (volleyball/basketball).
