STORM LAKE, IOWA . . . Buena Vista
University women's basketball player Katie Maguire
has been named a finalist for the Kodak/Women's Basketball Coaches
Association (WBCA) NCAA III All-America Team. The junior guard from
Treynor, Iowa, is one of 40 finalists in the nation for the All-America
Team.
Maguire, a three-time all-conference selection,
averaged over 18 points and five assists per game this past season
as Buena Vista won its second consecutive Iowa Conference Championship.
She set new single season school records for three point shots (74)
and three point field goal percentage (44.3%). Maguire, who earned
the conference’s Most Valuable Player award, ranks eighth in school
history with 1,177 career points. She is one of only 14 non-seniors
nominated for the All-America Team.
The 40 finalists, who are voted upon by WBCA member
coaches in each of the eight WBCA geographical regions, are now
in the running for selection to the 10-member Kodak/WBCA All-America
Team, which will be announced on March 17. Maguire was one of five
players selected from Region Eight as a finalist for the All-America
Team. The other four players selected from Buena Vista’s region
were Mandy Pearson of Concordia College, Anna Heikenen of the College
of St. Benedict, Sarah Shogren of Whitworth College, and Tiffany
Speer of Whitworth College.
