CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . Five Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) basketball players, three men and two women, were named to the D3hoops.com All-West Region Teams announced by the on-line publication on Wednesday.

Conference Most Valuable Player Katie Maguire (Treynor, Iowa/Treynor) of Buena Vista University was named to the All-West Region First Team. Teammate and First Team All-Conference performer Kristina Kapler (Cresco, Iowa/Crestwood) was named to the Second Team.

On the men’s side, Conference MVP Nate Schmidt (Cascade Iowa/Cascade) of Wartburg and Buena Vista’s Eric Wiebers (Denison, Iowa/Denison Schleswig) were named to the All-Region Second Team while the University of Dubuque’s Nick Thomas (Blackville, S.C./Blackville-Hilda) was named to the Third Team. Wiebers and Thomas were both First Team All-Conference selections.

Wiebers and Maguire were both D3hoops.com All-Region selections last year.

Players were nominated by their sports information directors and all SIDs were able to vote for six frontcourt and four backcourt players in their region.
