DECORAH, IOWA . . . Luther College
baseball coach Brian Gillogly recorded his 400th career victory
when the Norse defeated Central College in the first game of a double
header 14-3, played on April 7. Gillogly, who is in the midst of
his 16th season as a head coach and fourth year at Luther, has the
Norse off to a 15-4 record, 3-1 in the Iowa Conference. This is
the best start for a Norse squad since 1971. Last season, Gillogly
led the Norse to an overall record of 26-13 and their first winning
season since 1991. The Norse finished second in the Iowa Conference
with a record of 12-4.
Prior to taking over the Norse baseball program,
Gillogly spent 12 years as head coach at Marian College, Fond Du
Lac, Wis., where his squads won 11 Lake Michigan Conference championships.
During this time span, he coached teams to one regional and three
district/state championships and a seventh place in one NAIA World
Series. He has coached 71 all-conference performers, 29 all-district/state,
13 all-region, and nine All- American players.
In the latest American Baseball Coaches Association/Collegiate
Baseball NCAA Division III baseball poll released on April 11, Luther
is ranked 27th in the nation and third in the Central Region.
