CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . Coe College
won its fifth straight Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
(IIAC) men’s tennis Championship with a 4-1 victory over Luther
College in the Championship match of the Dual Team Tournament portion
of the three-day Conference Championship held in Cedar Rapids. It
is the third time Coe has defeated Luther in the Championship match.
Coe, the Tournament’s top seed, improved to 23-8
on the season after winning all three of its matches on Thursday.
In addition to their victory over #2 Luther, the Kohawks defeated
#8 Buena Vista (5-0) in the quarterfinals and #5 Wartburg (4-0)
in the semifinals. The victory over Buena Vista gave Coe head coach
Eric Rodgers 300 wins in his coaching career.
Wartburg and Cornell each pulled off upsets in
the Tournament. The fifth-seeded Wartburg defeated #4 Simpson (4-0)
in the quarterfinals and #6 Cornell defeated Simpson (4-3) in the
fifth-place match. In other place matches, #3 Central defeated Wartburg
(4-0) in the third-place match and #7 Loras defeated #8 Buena Vista
(5-0) in the seventh-place match.

The IIAC men’s tennis Championship continues Friday
and Saturday (April 29-30) with the Individual Flighted Tournament
beginning with singles matches at 8:00 a.m. at Veterans Park (Flights
B and C) and 8:15 a.m. at Clark Racquet Center (Flight A). Brackets
for the three singles flights and two doubles flights are attached
to this release.
