STORM LAKE, IOWA . . . Buena Vista
University athletic director Jan Travis has announced the hiring
of Lindsey Johnsen as head volleyball coach. Johnsen, who will also
serve as an instructor in the exercise science department at Buena
Vista, will begin her duties later this month.
Johnsen has served as an interim assistant and
graduate assistant coach at St. Cloud State University for the past
three seasons. Johnsen, who was coaching as an assistant under Patricia
Mickow, helped lead St. Cloud State to the NCAA Division II Tournament
last fall for the first time since 1995. The Huskies finished the
year with a 19-13 record, their highest win total in nearly a decade.
"We are very excited to bring somebody in
of Lindsey's caliber," Travis commented. "Her knowledge
and enthusiasm for volleyball that she will bring to the court gives
me great reason to look forward to her career here. I am confident
that Lindsey will be able to take Buena Vista volleyball to the
next level."
Johnsen will take over at BVU for Amy Sander who
resigned earlier this spring. Buena Vista, which has improved its
winning percentage each of the past five years, is coming off of
a 14-16 2004 campaign.
A 2002 graduate of Mayville State with a degree
in elementary education, Johnsen was a four-year starter for the
Mayville State volleyball team. In 2001, Johnsen served as a senior
assistant coach at Mayville State. She went on to coach two seasons
at Mayport C.G. High School in Mayville, N.D. Johnsen helped lead
that team to a North Dakota Class B state title in 2001 and her
team placed second in state during the 2002 season.
Johnsen graduated from Underwood High School in
Underwood, Minn. She recently earned her master's degree in sports
management at St. Cloud.
