GOLFERS RECEIVE NATIONAL ACADEMIC AND REGIONAL ATHLETIC RECOGNITIONS

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . Five Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) golfers were named to the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA)/PING All-Central Region Team and six IIAC golfers were named GCAA/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars as those two honors were announced by the GCAA on Tuesday.

Conference Medalist and two-time NCAA qualifier Pete Weber (Peosta, Iowa/Western Dubuque) a senior from Loras College and Luther College senior Mike Eisele (Rosemount, Minn./Apple Valley) were recognized for both their on-course play and their academic excellence.

Joining Weber and Eisele on the PING All-Central Region Team were: Coe College senior Josh Ketter (Parker, Colo./Chaparral), Simpson College senior Mike Martin (Bettendorf, Iowa/Bettendorf) and Wartburg College junior Kevin Ault (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge).

Receiving Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status in addition to Weber and Eisele were Buena Vista University junior Alex Downing (Lee’s Summit, Mo./Lee’s Summit North), Central College senior Nick Grossman (Carroll, Iowa/Kuemper), Cornell College senior Adam Majeski (Prophetstown, Ill./Prophetstown) and Luther College junior Andrew Hoegh (Knoxville, Iowa/Knoxville).

Twelve golfers from each of the six regions are named to the All-Region Team. Three players from each region are named as pre-National Tournament All-America selections. These student-athletes, along with the remaining members of the PING All-America Team are announced following the NCAA Championships (which concludes on Thursday, May 12).

To be eligible for Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a junior or senior academically and competed in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70 percent of his teams competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 79.0 and maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
