CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . Ten Iowa
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) student-athletes, six
baseball players and four softball players, were named to the ESPN
The Magazine Academic All-District VII College Division Teams selected
by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)
and announced on Thursday.
All four softball players were First Team selections.
They are Buena Vista University infielder Katie Onken
(Carroll, Iowa/Carroll), Coe College pitcher Amy Ernst
(Monona, Iowa/MFL Mar Mac), Coe outfielder Beth Rohlena
(Sioux City, Iowa/North) and Simpson College outfielder
Katie Brandt (Coquiltlam, B.C./Pinetree).
Buena Vista infielder Brian Ricken
(Haverhill, Iowa/Marshalltown), Central College catcher Adam
Duerfeldt (Urbandale, Iowa/Urbandale), Coe outfielder Eric
Hemesath (Dubuque, Iowa/Hempstead) and Wartburg College
infielder Joel Reynolds (West Des Moines, Iowa/Valley)
were named to the First Team. Luther College infielder David
Zelinskas (Dubuque, Iowa/Senior) and Wartburg catcher Brian
Greiner (Ankeny, Iowa/Lincoln) were Second Team selections.
Onken is a senior business management major with
a 3.915 grade point average. Ernst is a senior public accounting/business
major with a 3.974 GPA. Rohlena is a senior mathematics major with
a 3.884 GPA. Brandt is a senior biology major with a 4.00 GPA.
Ricken is a senior biology major with a 3.746 GPA.
Duerfeldt is a junior chemistry major with a 3.87 GPA. Hemesath
is a senior physics/computer science major with a 3.821 GPA. Reynolds
is a senior biology major with a 3.479 GPA. Zelinskas is a senior
biology major with a 3.61 GPA. Greiner is a junior accounting major
with a 3.766 GPA.
To be eligible for selection to the ESPN The Magazine
Academic All-District Team, a student-athlete must have reached
sophomore academic and athletic standing, be a starter or key reserve
and possess at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a
4.0 scale).
District VII College Division includes NCAA Division
II, NCAA Division III and NAIA schools in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas,
Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming,
Alberta and Saskatchewan.
