189 STUDENT-ATHLETES EARN ALL-ACADEMIC RECOGNITION

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today its All-Academic Team for the Spring 2005 season. One hundred eight-nine student-athletes from the six spring sports met the requirements for recognition.

To be eligible for IIAC All-Academic Team honors a student-athlete must compete at that varsity level, be at least a sophomore in academic standing and attain a 3.5 or better grade point average (on a 4.0 scale).

The 2005 IIAC Spring All-Academic Team is comprised of 71 juniors, 60 sophomores and 58 seniors. Wartburg College has a Conference-high 32 student-athletes on the Team followed by Luther College with 31 student-athletes and Central College with 29 student-athletes.

Ninety-six of the student-athletes honored participated in track and field, including 61 women and 35 men. Forty softball players, 20 men’s golfers, 19 baseball players and 14 men’s tennis players round out the Team.

Forty-six (24.4 percent) of the 2005 Spring All-Academic Team earned IIAC All-Academic honors in the fall or winter season. Ten of Luther’s 31 and 10 of Central’s 29 Spring All-Academic Team members eared similar honors in the fall or winter. Wartburg has eight two-time All-Academic honorees and Cornell has seven.
