POSTSEASON HONORS CONTINUE FOR IIAC STUDENT-ATHLETES

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) student-athletes continued to receive postseason athletic and academic recognitions over the past week as the following awards were announced.

ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VII At-Large – Five IIAC student-athletes were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District At-Large Team presented to athletes. Student-athletes participating in sports that do not have its own Academic All-District and Academic All-America® Team are eligible for the At-Large Team including swimming, golf, tennis and wrestling.

Central junior tennis player Jason Ford (Granite Falls, Minn./Yellow Medicine East), Luther senior wrestler Garrett South (Cumberland, Iowa/C&M) and Wartburg senior tennis player Mark Giesmann (Waverly, Iowa/Waverly-Shell Rock) were named to the Men’s At-Large First Team. Central junior tennis player Nick Cochrane (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) was named to the Men’s At-Large Second Team.

Coe junior swimmer Vonni Moorman (Shoreline, Wash./Shorewood) was named to the Women’s At-Large Team.

ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® – Three IIAC softball players and one baseball player were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® Team for their respective sport.

Coe senior pitcher Amy Ernst (Monona, Iowa/MFL Mar Mac) and Simpson senior outfielder Kate Brandt (Coquitlam, B.C./Pinetree) were named to the Softball First Team, and Coe senior outfielder Beth Rohlena (Sioux City, Iowa/North) was named to the Softball Second Team.

Central junior catcher Adam Duerfeldt (Urbandale, Iowa/Urbandale) was named to the Baseball First Team.

American Baseball Coaches Assoc. (ABCA) All-Midwest Region – Thirteen IIAC baseball players were named to the ABCA All-Midwest Region Team.

Being named to the ABCA All-Midwest Region First Team were Central senior short stop Steve Gebhart (Des Moines, Iowa/Saydel), Dubuque senior first baseman Joe Hapanionek (Hanover Park, Ill./Hanover Park), Wartburg senior first baseman Joel Reynolds (West Des Moines, Iowa/Valley) and Wartburg senior pitcher Matt Scherbring (Manchester, Iowa/West Delaware).

Second Team selections were Coe junior first baseman Chad Kramer (Iowa City, Iowa/West), Cornell senior catcher Todd Reichart (Lincolnshire, Ill./Stevenson), Simpson senior utility player Joey Young (Indianola, Iowa/Indianola) and Wartburg junior pitcher Ryan Moorman (Boone, Iowa/Boone).

Central junior catcher Adam Duerfeldt (Urbandale, Iowa/Urbandale), Cornell senior first baseman Paul John Zobeck (Soldonta, Alaska/Soldonta), Wartburg senior pitcher Charlie Colvin (Mason City, Iowa/Mason City), Wartburg junior short stop Casey Pauli (Scottsdale, Ariz./Saguuro) and Wartburg sophomore second baseman Marc Numedahl (Urbandale, Iowa/Urbandale) were named to the Third Team.
