LUTHER'S DOUG MELLO RECORDS 250th CAREER VICTORY AS WOMEN'S HEAD COACH

DECORAH, IOWA . . . Luther College women’s soccer Head Coach Doug Mello, recorded his 250th career victory, when Luther defeated Simpson College 3-0 on Sept. 25.

Mello, who is in the midst of his 19th year of coaching women’s collegiate soccer, has posted just one losing season during his career. He entered the year ranked seventh in the NCAA Division III for winningest active coaches by victories and ninth for winningest coaches all-time (245-107-24).

As a men’s head coach, Mello has recorded over 350 career victories Combined he has been involved with over 600 collegiate victories during his 26-plus years of coaching. On the men’s NCAA Division III career charts, Mello entered the 2004 campaign ranked 12th for winningest active coaches by victories (354-159-30).

With his 250 wins as both a men’s and women’s head coach, Mello becomes the only person who has accomplished this level of achievement at any NCAA I, II, or III institution, NAIA program, or two-year institution.
