CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . The Iowa
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today that
Central College senior middle hitter Jamie Stark
(Center Point, Iowa/Center Point-Urbana) was named 2004 IIAC volleyball
Most Valuable Player. Cornell College head coach Jeff Meeker
was named 2004 IIAC volleyball Coach of the Year.
Stark led Central to its ninth straight Conference
title and its ninth NCAA Tournament appearance in the past 10 years.
In 36 matches (124 games), she has averaged 2.86 kills, 1.23 digs,
0.73 blocks and 0.47 aces per game. She leads the Iowa Conference
with 58 service aces and ranks second in hitting percentage at .329
(355 kills-97 errors-784 total attempts). She has hit over .350
in 16 matches and has also reached double-digits in kills 16 times.
In nine Conference matches, Stark hit .330, averaged
2.86 kills, 0.97 digs, 0.93 blocks and 0.41 aces per game, ranking
second in the Conference in hitting percentage and blocks/game.
She hit over .300 in seven of nine Conference matches.
Meeker, in his third season as head coach at Cornell,
led the Rams to a 23-13 overall record, a 5-3 record in the Iowa
Conference and a runner-up finish at the Conference Tournament.
All three marks, along with the team’s second-place tie in the regular
season, are the school’s best since joining the Iowa Conference
in 1997. For the first time, Cornell finished above-.500 in Iowa
Conference play and this season marked just the school’s second
above-.500 overall record since joining the IIAC (Cornell finished
17-16 in 2003).
The IIAC also announced today the 2004 volleyball
All-Conference Team. The 16-member Team includes five repeat All-Conference
performers, including Simpson’s Shannon Stewart,
the 2003 Conference MVP, who receives All-Conference honors for
the third consecutive year. Conference Champion Central had four
players earn All-Conference honors, including three members of the
First Team. Wartburg had three All-Conference selections, all members
of the First Team.
