SEVEN FOOTBALL PLAYERS, THREE VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS NAMED TO CoSIDA ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT TEAMS

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . Seven Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) football student-athletes and three IIAC volleyball student-athletes were named to the Academic All-District VII College Division Teams in their respective sports. The Teams were selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and announced on November 11.

Football players earning First Team Academic All-District VII honors include Buena Vista University linebacker Michael Irvin (Bedford, Iowa/Bedford), Wartburg College linebacker Mike Bouska (Dunkerton, Iowa/Dunkerton) and Wartburg punter Mark Giesmann (Waverly, Iowa/Waverly-Shell Rock). Central College quarterback Mark Isaacson (Urbandale, Iowa/Urbandale), linebacker Mark Sanger (Britt, Iowa/West Hancock) and defensive back Nick Cross (Newton, Iowa/Lynnville-Sully), and University of Dubuque running back Jason Steinlicht (Belmond, Iowa/West Hancock) were named to the Academic All-District VII Second Team.

Volleyball players earning First Team Academic All-District VII honors include Central middle hitter Jamie Stark (Center Point, Iowa/Center Point-Urbana) and Wartburg setter Sarah Olsen (Osage, Iowa/Osage). Buena Vista setter Laura Reuter (LeMars, Iowa/LeMars) was named to the Academic All-District VII Second Team.

Irvin is a senior mathematics major with a 3.663 grade point average. Bouska is a senior biology major with a 3.953 GPA. Giesmann is a senior mathematics/engineering science major with a 3.910 GPA. Isaacson is a senior chemistry major with a 3.84 GPA. Sanger is a senior exercise science major with a 3.77 GPA. Cross is a senior economics major with a 3.79 GPA. Steinlicht is a senior flight operations major with a 3.605 GPA.

Stark is a senior exercise science major with a 3.99 GPA. Olsen is senior elementary education major with a 3.97 GPA. Reuter is a junior exercise science major with a 4.00 GPA.

Twenty-four student-athletes were named to a First and Second Academic All-District football Team. Six student-athletes were named to a First, Second and Third Academic All-District volleyball Team. Members of the First Team move on to the national Academic All-America® ballot. The football Academic All-America® Team is scheduled to be announced on Wednesday, December 1. The volleyball Academic All-America® Team is scheduled to be announced on Thursday, December 2.

To be eligible for selection to the Academic All-District Team, a student-athlete must have reached sophomore academic and athletic standing, be a starter or key reserve and possess at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale).

District VII College Division includes NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA schools in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Alberta and Saskatchewan.
