CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . Eighteen
Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) football players
were named to Don Hansen’s Football Gazette All-West Region Team
including three members of the First Team, eight members of the
Second Team and seven members of the Third Team.
Earning First Team All-West Region recognition
from the Football Gazette were Central College senior linebacker
Mark Sanger (Britt, Iowa/West Hancock), Simpson
College senior defensive back Kyle Westphal (Fontanelle,
Iowa/Nodaway Valley) and Simpson junior defensive lineman Jason
Ripke (Newell, Iowa/Newell-Fonda).
All-West Region Second Team members were Coe College
senior quarterback Joe Brannen (Colo, Iowa/Colo-NESCO),
Coe junior offensive lineman Sean Kennedy (Waterloo,
Iowa/Columbus), Coe senior linebacker Blake Borrett (Cedar
Rapids, Iowa/Jefferson), Luther College sophomore running back Tyler
Sherden (Rochester, Minn./John Marshall), Simpson junior
wide receiver Dusty Kain (Prairie City, Iowa/Prairie
City-Monroe), Wartburg College senior offensive lineman Andy
Heitman (Marengo, Iowa/Iowa Valley), Wartburg senior defensive
back Brian McIntire (Clear Lake, Iowa/Clear Lake)
and Wartburg junior defensive lineman Noah Junge (Van
Horne, Iowa/Benton Community).
All-West Region Third Team members were Buena Vista
University senior linebacker Michael Irvin (Bedford,
Iowa/Bedford), Buena Vista sophomore punter Chris Kemmerer
(Clear Lake, Iowa/Clear Lake), Coe freshman running back Neil
Suckow (Fredericksburg, Iowa/Fredericksburg), Loras College
senior offensive lineman Jim Milner (Peoria, Ill./Illinois
Valley Central), Luther sophomore wide receiver Kyle Pearson
(Flagstaff, Ariz./Sinagua), Luther senior defensive lineman
Scott Romens (Glenwood, Iowa/Glenwood), and Luther
senior linebacker John Jaeger (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah).
Six of the All-Region performers earned similar
honors in 2003 from Don Hansen’s Football Gazette. Kain and Westphal
were First Team All-West Region selections a year ago. Irvin and
Sanger were Second Team selections, and Jaeger and Heitman were
Third Team selections.
