CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . Eight
Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) soccer players were
recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America
(NSCAA) as the organization announced its All-Region and All-America
Teams.
Wartburg College senior goaltender Collin
Lane (Muscatine, Iowa/Muscatine) and senior forward Verne
Houston (Omaha, Neb./Benson) became the first two Iowa
Conference men’s soccer players to be named All-Americans, both
earning NSCAA/adidas Third Team honors. Lane and Houston were also
named NSCAA/adidas First Team All-West Region. Houston was a First
Team selection last season as well.
Joining the duo on the All-West Region Team were
Central College senior forward Kyle Halfpop (Urbandale,
Iowa/Urbandale), Loras College senior defender Dan Johnson
(Dubuque, Iowa/Hempstead) and Loras senior midfielder Sean
Moran (Alsip, Ill./Marist). Halfpop was named to the All-West
Region Second Team, and Johnson and Moran were named to the All-West
Region Third Team.
On the women’s side, Loras senior forward Michelle
Wieser (Dubuque, Iowa/Senior), Loras senior midfielder
Katie Brake (Kansas City, Mo./Notre Dame de Sion)
and Luther College senior forward Katie Pettigrew (Farmington,
N.M./Farmington) received All-Central Region recognition. Wieser
was a First Team selection, Pettigrew was a Second Team selection
and Brake was a Third Team selection. Wieser and Pettigrew were
both First Team All-Central Region selections in 2003 and Third
Team selections in 2002.
