CENTRAL’S JOHNSON & SIMPSON’S RIPKE NAMED TO FOOTBALL GAZETTE ALL-AMERICA TEAM

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . Central College senior offensive tackle Ryan Johnson (Britt, Iowa/West Hancock) and Simpson College senior defensive end Jason Ripke (Newell, Iowa/Newell-Fonda) were named to Don Hansen’s Football Gazette All-America Team announced on Thursday. Both Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) players were Third Team selections.

Johnson and Ripke, both of whom were named to the d3football.com All-America Team in December, are the 10th and eighth players from their respective institutions to receive Football Gazette All-America honors in the 18 years the publication has been naming a Division III All-American Team. Ripke was also a Football Gazette All-America in 2004 and has now received five All-America honors in the past two years.

Central sophomore running back Vance Schuring (Pella, Iowa/Pella), Coe College senior offensive tackle Sean Kennedy (Waterloo, Iowa/Columbus), University of Dubuque senior tight end Josh Staley (Boca Raton, Fla./Olympic Heights Community) and Loras College senior defensive tackle Ross Dillavou (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier) received All-American honorable mention from Don Hansen’s Football Gazette.
