CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . Buena Vista University senior guard Katie Maguire and Central College sophomore guard Brett De Hoogh were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VII College Division Basketball Teams selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Maguire, a senior elementary education major from Treynor, Iowa, was one of six student-athletes voted to the all-district first team. Her name will now appear on the national ballot to determine Academic All-American® Team members. This is the second season in a row that Maguire has earned this honor

Maguire, who boasts a 3.775 grade point average, is currently leading the Iowa Conference in scoring, assists, free-throw percentage, and three-point shots. She is the daughter of Scott Maguire of Treynor, Iowa and Annette Vasicek of Treynor, Iowa.

Central College sophomore Brett De Hoogh of Clive, a graduate of Valley High School, has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District College Division Men’s Basketball Team.

De Hoogh, a sophomore mathematics major from Clive, Iowa, was a third-team selection. He carries a 3.84 grade point average and has already broken the school season assists record with 127 (6.0 per game). He is averaging 8.5 points and 4.3 rebounds with 1.6 steals and 0.5 assists. Over 14,000 student-athletes have been named Academic All-America® Team members since 1952. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.20 cumulative grade point average on a 4.00 scale, have been a starter or key reserve position on a varsity athletic team, reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his current institution, and have received a nomination by the athletic department's Sports Information Director.
