COE’S KILBURG NAMED MEN’S BASKETBALL MVP; COE’S JUCKEM NAMED COACH OF THE YEAR; MEN’S BASKETBALL ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM ANNOUNCED

March 1, 2006

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today that Coe College junior forward Mike Kilburg (Bellevue, Iowa/Marquette) has been named the 2005-06 IIAC men’s basketball Most Valuable Player and Coe head coach Pat Juckem has been named the 2005-06 IIAC men’s basketball Coach of the Year.

Kilburg led Coe in scoring 13 times, rebounding 10 times and six times led the Kohawks in scoring and rebounding in the same game. He ranked in the Conference top-10 of five statistical categories. In 27 games, he ranked second in the Conference in field goal percentage (59.2 percent, 171-of-289), fourth in scoring (16.0) and offensive rebounds (1.93/game), ninth in rebounding (5.6/games), and 10th in blocked shots (0.59/game).

In 16 Conference games, Kilburg ranked second in field goal percentage (60.4 percent), fifth in scoring (16.8 points/game), sixth in offensive rebounds (2.00/game), eighth in rebounding (5.8/game), t-11th in defensive rebounds (3.81) and t-12th in blocks (0.63/game).

Juckem led Coe to its first-ever Iowa Conference title (shared with Wartburg) in his first season at the helm. The Kohawks finished the season with a 20-7 overall record and a 12-4 Conference mark. The 20 wins are the most for the program in 30 years (23-1 in 1975-76) and the seven losses are the fewest since going 19-7 in 1998-99.

The IIAC also announced today the 2005-06 men’s basketball All-Conference Team. The 15-member Team includes six repeat All-Conference performers including Wartburg’s Jason Steege, a three-time First Team selection. Conference co-Champions Coe and Wartburg each had three All-Conference performers. Dubuque, Loras and Luther each had two All-Conference selections.
