80 STUDENT-ATHLETES EARN ALL-ACADEMIC RECOGNITION

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today its All-Academic Team for the Winter 2005-06 season. Eighty student-athletes from the Conference’s five winter sports met the requirements for recognition.

To be eligible for IIAC All-Academic Team honors a student-athlete must compete at the varsity level, be at least a sophomore in academic standing and attain a 3.5 or better grade point average (on a 4.0 scale).

The 2005-06 Winter All-Academic Team is comprised of 27 seniors, 27 sophomores and 26 juniors. Luther College has a Conference-high 21 student-athletes on the Team followed by Coe College (13 student-athletes), and Buena Vista University, Loras College and Simpson College (nine student-athletes each).

Forty-five of the student-athletes honored are basketball players, including 31 women and 14 men. Twenty-one swimmers are on the All-Academic Team, including 13 women and eight men. Fourteen wrestlers also made the Team.

University of Dubuque junior Jenica Kester also earned All-Academic Team honors in the fall. She is a basketball player and golfer for the Spartans.
