NINE CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS, SIX RUNNERS RECOGNIZED FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . Nine Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) cross country teams, six women’s and three men’s teams, and six student-athletes were recognized by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for their academic excellence as the Association announced its All-Academic Team on Friday.

Central College, Coe College and Luther College had both its men’s and women’s teams earn All-Academic Team honors. Cornell College, Loras College and Simpson College women were also recognized. The USTFCCCA recognized 108 women’s teams and 67 men’s teams with cumulative grade point averages over 3.1. Simpson women had a 3.516 GPA, Loras women had a 3.498 GPA, Luther women had a 3.495 GPA, Cornell women had a 3.424 GPA, Coe women had a 3.36 GPA and Central women had a 3.33 GPA. Luther men had a 3.304 GPA, Central men had a 3.16 GPA and Coe men had a 3.147 GPA.

Individuals receiving USTFCCCA All-Academic honors were Luther freshman Amber Uhlenhake (4.0 GPA), Simpson senior Jen Wendt (3.927 GPA) and Loras sophomore Bryna Copes (3.623 GPA), Luther junior Adam Bohach (3.7825 GPA), Luther senior Matt Roling (3.7819 GPA) and Central senior Bryan George (3.57 GPA). One hundred fifty-seven female runners and 87 male runners were among the student-athletes honored with a 3.5 GPA or higher. Uhlenhake was one of 20 runners (13 female, 7 male) with a 4.0 GPA.
