SCHMIDT RESIGNS AS COE VOLLEYBALL COACH

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . Heather Schmidt has resigned her position as head volleyball coach at Coe College to pursue a business opportunity near the Des Moines area.

Schmidt has spent the last four seasons with the Kohawks and compiled a record of 56-88 (.389). She led Coe to a 19-17 record in 2005 and a tie for fourth place in the Iowa Conference. It was the first winning season for the team since 2001.

For the first time since joining the Iowa Conference in 1997, the Coe volleyball team placed three players on the all-conference team. Schmidt coached four all-conference players during her tenure.

“Heather has done a tremendous job with our volleyball program,” said Coe Director of Athletics John Chandler. “She has been an asset to the Athletic and Physical Education Departments and her hard work and dedication will be missed.”

Coe is currently accepting applications for the head coaching position and the search will remain open until a successor is found.
