IOWA CITY , IOWA . . . Wartburg College shot a 7-over-par 295 in the opening round of the 2006 Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) men’s golf Championship at Finkbine Golf Course and hold a one stroke lead over Central College (296) and a four stroke lead over Luther College (299).

Individually, Central’s Alvaro DeCosio shot a 3-under-par 69 on the 6977-yard course and owns a two stroke lead. Wartburg’s Ryan Kinseth (1-under 71) is the only other golfer under-par and is second-place one stroke ahead of Central’s Derek Deminsky. Wartburg’s Andrew Miller sits fourth with a 73 followed by a four-way tie for fifth at 74 (Buena Vista’s Alex Downing, Luther’s Ben Hanson, Ed Witkowski and Andy Hoegh).

The IIAC Championship continues Saturday at Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City. Tee times begin at 9:00 a.m. with players from Wartburg, Central and Luther. Buena Vista, Coe and Simpson players will be paired together as will Loras, Cornell and Dubuque players.
