CITY , IOWA . . . Behind three golfers shooting par
or better, Luther College shot a 288 in the second round of
the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) men’s
golf Championship at Finkbine Golf Club on Saturday to move
into the lead of the 72-hole Tournament. The Norse have a 36-hole
team score of 587, two strokes better than first round leader
Wartburg College (295-295—589) and seven strokes up on
Central College (296-298—594).
Luther’s
Ben Hanson is the individual leader half-way
through the Tournament with an even-par 144. His 70 on Saturday
was the day’s low round as Luther players carded three
of the four low rounds of the day. Tom Lantzy was
1-under-par on the day and Ed Witkowski shot
par as did Central’s Andy Petersen.
Central’s
Alvaro DeCosio and Wartburg’s Ryan
Kinseth, who were one-two after the first round, are
tied for second with a 145 after carding a 76 and 74, respectively
on Saturday. Witkowski (74-72) and Wartburg’s Andrew
Miller (73-73) are tied for fourth at 146, followed
by Lantzy (77-71) and Central’s Derek Deminsky
(72-76) at 148. Wartburg’s Kevin Ault
and Blake Halvorsen (both at 149), Peterson
and Buena Vista’s Kent Schroeder (both
at 151) round out the top-10.
The IIAC
Championship continues next weekend, April 28-29, at Meadows
Golf Club in Asbury. Tee times on Friday begin at 11:00 a.m.
with players from Loras, Cornell and Dubuque teeing off first.
Buena Vista, Coe and Simpson players will play together during
the middle set of tee times, and Luther, Wartburg and Central
will play together. Saturday’s tee times start at 9:00
a.m. with pairings determined by individual score after 54-holes.
