MEN'S GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP - DAY TWO RECAP

April 22, 2006

IOWA CITY , IOWA . . . Behind three golfers shooting par or better, Luther College shot a 288 in the second round of the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) men’s golf Championship at Finkbine Golf Club on Saturday to move into the lead of the 72-hole Tournament. The Norse have a 36-hole team score of 587, two strokes better than first round leader Wartburg College (295-295—589) and seven strokes up on Central College (296-298—594).

Luther’s Ben Hanson is the individual leader half-way through the Tournament with an even-par 144. His 70 on Saturday was the day’s low round as Luther players carded three of the four low rounds of the day. Tom Lantzy was 1-under-par on the day and Ed Witkowski shot par as did Central’s Andy Petersen.

Central’s Alvaro DeCosio and Wartburg’s Ryan Kinseth, who were one-two after the first round, are tied for second with a 145 after carding a 76 and 74, respectively on Saturday. Witkowski (74-72) and Wartburg’s Andrew Miller (73-73) are tied for fourth at 146, followed by Lantzy (77-71) and Central’s Derek Deminsky (72-76) at 148. Wartburg’s Kevin Ault and Blake Halvorsen (both at 149), Peterson and Buena Vista’s Kent Schroeder (both at 151) round out the top-10.

The IIAC Championship continues next weekend, April 28-29, at Meadows Golf Club in Asbury. Tee times on Friday begin at 11:00 a.m. with players from Loras, Cornell and Dubuque teeing off first.
