STORM
LAKE, IOWA . . . Buena Vista President Frederick V.
Moore announced today that Jay Anderson has
accepted the position of head football coach at the University.
Anderson has been the team's offensive coordinator and recruiting
coordinator each of the past six seasons.
"After
a national search, we found the very best coach to lead our
program, and he is already here," said Buena Vista President
Frederick V. Moore. "Coach Jay Anderson is an energetic
coach and recruiter. Look for some exciting changes in Buena
Vista football!"
Anderson
has been at the University for the past nine seasons. Before
taking over as the offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator
in 2000, he was a graduate assistant coach from 1997-1999 who
worked with the defensive backs and wide receivers.
"It's
an exciting time to represent Buena Vista, which is an outstanding
institution with excellent faculty and staff," stated Anderson.
"This program has a tremendous amount of potential. I am
looking forward to coaching a group of high-caliber student-athletes."
During his time as offensive coordinator at Buena Vista, Anderson
coached nine all-conference offensive players. The athletes
who have played under him have set 18 offensive school records.
"I
am excited about the opportunity to work with Anderson as the
head football coach," Buena Vista athletics director Jan
Travis said. "Anderson is an excellent role model for our
young men and leads by example. I am confident that his knowledge
and enthusiasm that he bring to the program will take the Beavers
to the next level."
Prior to
joining the Buena Vista staff, Anderson was an assistant coach
at Simpson College during the 1995 and 1996 seasons. He was
the coordinator of the passing game for the 1996 team that went
10-0 during the regular season.
Anderson graduated with a degree in elementary education from
Drake University where he was a two-time letter winner on the
football team. Anderson went on to earn a master's degree in
educational administration that Buena Vista.
"I'm
looking forward to the challenges and the opportunities that
this position presents. I'm especially eager to build upon relationships
with the area high school programs," commented Anderson.
"The program is in an excellent position to do great things,
and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to lead it in the
right direction."
Anderson,
a graduate of Interstate 35 High School in Truro, Iowa, takes
over for Steve Osterberger who resigned last month to take the
head coaching job at Loras College. Anderson becomes the 25th
head coach in the history of the program.
