STORM LAKE, IOWA . . . Buena Vista President Frederick V. Moore announced today that Jay Anderson has accepted the position of head football coach at the University. Anderson has been the team's offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator each of the past six seasons.

"After a national search, we found the very best coach to lead our program, and he is already here," said Buena Vista President Frederick V. Moore. "Coach Jay Anderson is an energetic coach and recruiter. Look for some exciting changes in Buena Vista football!"

Anderson has been at the University for the past nine seasons. Before taking over as the offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator in 2000, he was a graduate assistant coach from 1997-1999 who worked with the defensive backs and wide receivers.

"It's an exciting time to represent Buena Vista, which is an outstanding institution with excellent faculty and staff," stated Anderson. "This program has a tremendous amount of potential. I am looking forward to coaching a group of high-caliber student-athletes."

During his time as offensive coordinator at Buena Vista, Anderson coached nine all-conference offensive players. The athletes who have played under him have set 18 offensive school records.

"I am excited about the opportunity to work with Anderson as the head football coach," Buena Vista athletics director Jan Travis said. "Anderson is an excellent role model for our young men and leads by example. I am confident that his knowledge and enthusiasm that he bring to the program will take the Beavers to the next level."

Prior to joining the Buena Vista staff, Anderson was an assistant coach at Simpson College during the 1995 and 1996 seasons. He was the coordinator of the passing game for the 1996 team that went 10-0 during the regular season.

Anderson graduated with a degree in elementary education from Drake University where he was a two-time letter winner on the football team. Anderson went on to earn a master's degree in educational administration that Buena Vista.

"I'm looking forward to the challenges and the opportunities that this position presents. I'm especially eager to build upon relationships with the area high school programs," commented Anderson. "The program is in an excellent position to do great things, and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to lead it in the right direction."

Anderson, a graduate of Interstate 35 High School in Truro, Iowa, takes over for Steve Osterberger who resigned last month to take the head coaching job at Loras College. Anderson becomes the 25th head coach in the history of the program.
