CEDAR
RAPIDS, IOWA . . . For
the fourth time in five years Coe College and Luther College
met in the Championship match of the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference (IIAC) men’s tennis Team Tournament, and as
it has on all previous occasions, Coe came away victorious.
The top-seeded Kohawks posted a 4-1 win over the second-seeded
Norse in the team portion of the three-day Conference Championship
held in Cedar Rapids.
Coe
improved to 27-5 on the season with the victory and Luther fell
to 18-13. En route to the Championship match, Coe and Luther
both posted 4-0 victories in the semifinals, Coe over #4 Wartburg
College and Luther over #3 Central College. Coe has won six
straight Iowa Conference titles, the longest streak since Luther
won eight straight from 1988-95.
Central
defeated Wartburg in the third-place match (4-0) and Cornell
College defeated Simpson College in the fifth-place match (4-2).
Wartburg defeated #5 Simpson and Central defeated #6 Cornell
in opening round matches, both by scores of 4-0.

The
IIAC men’s tennis Championship continues Friday and Saturday
(April 28-29) with the Individual Flighted Tournament beginning
with singles matches at 8:30 a.m. at Coe College (Flight A)
and Veterans Park (Flights B and C). Due to forecasted inclement
weather in the Cedar Rapids area for the two days, locations
and schedule for the Individual Tournament could be adjusted.
